We are thrilled to announce a major endorsement for our campaign to save The Ivy at Heddington from Guy Tullberg, Managing Director of award-winning Wiltshire-based condiments specialist Tracklements.
This support has seen Guy become an official Patron of The Ivy Inn, a fantastic boost as we officially launch our community share offer to purchase and secure the future of the pub!
The Ivy is the very inspiration behind one of Tracklements’ best-loved products: Beer Mustard. This condiment is truly the taste of Wiltshire, and its recipe was developed by Guy and his late father, William Tullberg, after their regular post-work pint at The Ivy.
Tracklements’ Beer Mustard is famously flavoured with Wadworth’s classic 6X original ale. The pub, a 17th-century landmark, is currently owned by the Devizes-based brewery.
As The Friends of The Ivy Community Benefit Society (CBS), we are working tirelessly to complete the purchase from Wadworth’s. Once secured, our plan is to renovate it and transform it into a vibrant community hub. The Grade II-listed building is registered as an Asset of Community Value. We envision it operating as a café during the day, a classic pub in the evenings, and a hub for all, complete with local farm shop produce available through a giant refrigerated vending machine.
The Ivy: A Tracklements’ Icon
The connection between The Ivy and Tracklements runs deep, as Guy Tullberg explained:
“Almost every day after work we’d head out to Heddington to be at The Ivy for bang on 6pm and the landlord, Sid Alexander, would open the door, give us a warm welcome and, without asking, pour two pints of 6X into two mugs, straight from the wood. In the winter there would be a roaring fire, always good company and lots of general chatter.”
He describes the pub as his ‘moon under the water’ moment, adding that he sometimes falls asleep “dreaming of The Ivy and all that’s wonderful and perfect about this icon of a pub and the part it’s played in my life and Tracklements life.”
Guy confirmed that many of Tracklements’ best ideas were conceived over a pint in the pub, with the Beer Mustard being the most famous example. The recipe was even honed with Major Bartholomew, who led Wadworth’s from the 1950s, to ensure it was “perfect with a Wiltshire sausage.”
“I’m pleased to say the beer mustard is still going strong as part of our range,” Guy said. “My father loved pubs, the company and the beer. I know how upset and sad he’d be, as would I, if The Ivy was to be lost to the village and the wider community.”
Tracklements, based in Malmesbury, supplies its products to prestigious retailers like Harrods and Waitrose. We are incredibly grateful that Guy, who now heads the company, has fully backed our plans and shown his commitment by becoming a Patron.
