On 12 December 2025 our share offer was successful—we have bought The Ivy!
Friends of The Ivy was born when The Ivy Inn in Heddington, Wiltshire, was put up for sale by Wadworth in May 2024. A year and a half later we succeeded in raising over £430,000 through our first share offer—and we have now bought the pub!
Now the really hard work begins, particularly to increase our finances further through grants and to develop the building as the community hub, café and pub we all so much want it to be.
Our thanks go to everyone who has been involved, and specially to those who have bought shares and become members of our Community Benefit Society. Get ready for much more news as the project moves forward!!

Our Vision: The Ivy—A Community Hub
As a community-run business, we will expand on the pub’s traditional role and provide a space for a wider range of activities and services to meet the needs of Heddington and Stockley residents. In addition to remaining a pub, The Ivy would also become a local café!
Our aim is to secure The Ivy as a central feature of the village community, not only as a benefit to our community but also as a provider of hospitality and enjoyment to a much wider range of people who already visit the area and who will be attracted by what we intend to offer.
We are convinced that The Ivy will be a place for social gathering, cultural activities and a place for people to meet, exchange information and enjoy each other’s company. A good pub and community hub—which is what we envisage The Ivy will be—is about the diversity of the people who use it, a place for friendships to be forged, and provide an environment in which local societies and clubs can meet and thrive.
Our survey shows us that The Ivy could be a very important venue for entertainment, and the success of our Popup pubs over the last year has proven that this vital community asset must be preserved.
